Christmas is a special time in North Pole where the home of Santa Claus maintains a prominent location along the Richardson highway. Our storybook charm, candy-cane light pole and 50-foot Santa Claus invites the child in all of us to stop and enjoy the spirit of Christmas year round.

The City of North Pole is a unique community of more than 1700 individuals located 14 miles south of Fairbanks , 86 miles north of Delta Junction and 114 miles south of the Arctic Circle . North Pole is nestled between Eielson Air Force Base and Fort Wainwright Army Base. The city serves as a hub for approximately 16,000 residents in the greater North Pole area community.

North Pole offers a full complement of travelers services, including banking, insurance agencies, travel agency, post office, shopping, visitor's cabin, and repair services. Campers and visitors will find overnight accommodations, propane, diesel, gas, ice, water and sanitary disposal services. A modern recreational vehicle park is located adjacent to the Santa Claus House.

North Pole, bordered by the Tanana River and surrounded by lush green forests, provide numerous opportunities for recreation. Summertime in North Pole is camping weather. There are several sites from which to select. Some area businesses offer free camping and parking for recreational vehicles. The Fairbanks North Star Borough maintains a free camping ground in the heart of the North Pole along Fifth Avenue . Nearby, Chena Lakes offers camping, hiking, boating, swimming and excellent fishing for a fee. Beaver Springs Nature Trail meanders from City Hall to the Fifth Avenue Park . There are interpretive signs, benches, foot-bridges, and a memorial garden along the trail. There are several other parks for families to enjoy, Terry Miller Memorial Park , the Jimmy O'Connor Outdoor Skateboard Park and the Highway Park Playground.

Summer visitors will likely see a variety of local wildlife, including resident moose that wander through lawns and campsites. There is an abundance of wildflowers and cultivated flowers. Thee are no snakes in Alaska , so don't be afraid to get out and tromp around, just be on the look out for moose, bears and pesky mosquitoes.

Municipal facilities and utilities include: Police Department, Fire Department., Ambulance/EMT Service, Water and Sanitary Service, street maintenance, public library, indoor swimming pool and water slide, playgrounds, parks and ball fields. Funding for the city is provided through a 4% sales tax, 3 mils property tax, state revenue, interest earnings, federal revenue and other sources. The City operates under a council-strong mayor form of government. Policy-making and legislative authority are vested in a governing council consisting of six members and the mayor. City Hall is open 8 am - 5 pm Monday through Friday. After hours, weekends or holidays messages can be left in voice mailboxes through an automated answering system.
